UPDATE: The NC Secretary of State is now allowing witnesses to be sworn in via video!
Because of these trying times, Asheville Reporting Service wants to make our clients aware of our Remote Deposition Service. From the safety of one’s home or office, you can connect to and attend a deposition from anywhere in the country. Our staff can walk you through the very simple and efficient process of using Zoom to take or attend a deposition.
All you need is an Internet connection and a computer (laptop, desktop, tablet, or Smartphone) with a webcam. Also, our conference room is available with a large-screen monitor if one or two people wish to attend here, as long as we do not exceed the allowable amount of people convened and can maintain our six-foot separation from one another. Otherwise, we can email you a link to launch the application from your own device. Attending a deposition by phone is available, as well.
Because the usual rules require that the court reporter be in the physical presence of the deponent, it will be necessary for the parties to stipulate (and the court reporter to include that stipulation in the record) that this requirement is waived due to the social distancing orders in effect as a result of the Coronavirus pandemic.
Additionally, we are waiving our usual fee for Zoom or traditional videoconferencing throughout this social isolation mandate.
So why allow your cases to backlog? Before postponing your depositions, consider going forward using videoconferencing.
